SURI & DADA – Dachshund/Terrier X – Sister & Brother – 2-1/2 Y
If you remember, at the end of September, we shared with you that our dear friend, board member and vice president Rochelle Hatter passed away after fighting a year long battle with Mesothelioma. We mentioned that she left behind her two little beloved dogs, Suri & Dada — a bonded sister/brother pair of adorable little Doxie mixes. They spent the last year in Utah with Rochelle and her family and kept her company during her illness. The family so wished they could give these kiddos a home but they did not have the ability so they were kind enough to bring them back to Montana so we could place them. Rochelle would have wanted that and we feel a deep obligation to find these two an incredible home together (per her request). They led a super quiet life with Ro and did not get much socialization or training due to her illness. Once she was sick, she moved in with her 90 year old mother so another quiet, mature environment — we do believe that is the type of home where they will flourish as that is what they are used to.
Yup, their names are really different but you have to understand that Rochelle was an Art Major … Suri and Dada are actual types or periods of art (Google it!). They have been living for about a month in our foster home so we could get to know them a bit better; here is what we have learned so far:
They are both housebroke and crate trained. Like the smaller dogs in the foster home and try to get them to play — big dogs are a huge NO. They feel threatened and want to bite and attack the larger dogs. They are NOT used to children and although will tolerate them — if they get loud or rambunctious, they will bark and try to nip at the kids. So more settled children over the age of say 10 should be fine. Their foster home has a super large fenced yard and they love to run and play chase with each other. They do adore each other very much — they will tussle and play and then settle down and clean/groom each other. Dada really loves grooming his sister Suri! They are doing much better on leash — when the first came to us, they had never had a leash on before! Both will get on your lap for some snuggles. If they see anything out of the ordinary, they will bark.
Suri has a lot of personality but can be very shy at first meeting. She talks by doing this “woohoo” bark when you are getting her food ready – it is very cute! She also loves belly scritches. Dada is more confident than Suri — he is a cuddler and also protector of his sister. Dada loves basking out in the warm sun!
The perfect home for these two little love nuggets would be a mature home with a fenced yard, someone home at least a portion of the day, no young children and no large dogs. Both dogs are spayed & neutered, up to date on shots and will be microchipped upon placement.
