RIVER – Labrador Retriever/Pitbull X – Male – 1-1/2 Y
It really sucks when you’re a stray pupper and no one claims you but it is RHS’s promise to these wayward souls that we will find them the best new furever home possible. River is one such dog and being such a happy fellow, it is hard for us to understand why.
This is a dog who does not have an enemy in the world. River believes that everyone is his buddy (whether you walk on two legs or have fur) and wants to play, play, play! Not one aggressive bone in his body! He can easily be described as a silly, happy go lucky pup. River does have a lot of energy as he is still young but this is what makes him so endearing … his zest for life is contagious!
River was a bit of a “wild child” when he first came in … it was mainly his exuberance for people and all things in his environment. He has spent some time with our trainer and is now walking on loose lead and knows a few commands. He is a quick learner and a very smart dog but would really benefit from some further obedience classes with his new owner.
River is housebroke and wonderfully crate trained. Super neutral with other dogs and just wants to be their best buddy. River will do best in a home with another canine companion — we do not feel he will flourish as an only dog. He has been introduced to cats and acted like he wanted to play with them (of course!) but didn’t show any aggression. He may be a little much for a shy, quiet cat. Being River doesn’t have an aggressive bone in his body, he should be fine with children but they must be older to withstand his exuberance – toddlers are going to be an easy target for his uber friendliness. 🙂
Neutered, up to date on shots, wormed and microchipped — with some fine tuning of his training, River is going to make an excellent companion for his new owner. He also loves the car and loves to go – what more could one ask?
