RANGO – German Shepherd X – Male – 6-1/2 Y
Those eyes … those incredibly sad eyes! They whisper to your soul and speak of his undying loyalty! Remember that country song, Old Blue? Well, that is Rango through and through! His owner passed away after a very long and extended illness and before his death, he asked the Rimrock Humane Society to find a forever home for this handsome fella which we are honored to do! We definitely see the German Shepherd in him but we think the ears and eyes lean a little toward Anatolian as well … what do you think?
There is nothing more important to Rango than hanging around his human. While he is very gentle, he is a big dog weighing in at 84 lbs so he’s probably not a good match for small toddlers. He does get along great with other dogs having spent most of his life with 3 other pups in the home — all various sizes. While Rango is new to walking on leash, he has taken to it in a big way! He just can’t contain himself when he sees the leash come out. Rango is still learning how to act but he’s responding well to a quick correction at the end of the leash. He’ll come in response to his name if he starts going off track. Rango wants nothing more than affection from his human. If he was a little smaller he would love to be a lap dog but he just doesn’t fit! 🙂 Very content to lay on the rug near his humans and every now and then he’ll get up, walk up to you and show those sad eyes “saying please pet me for a while”. He loves getting brushed and of course belly rubs are more than welcome!
This sweet boy doesn’t appear to know how to play but he wants to learn. He will chase a tennis ball but gives up after a couple of throws. Rango has been a bit of a challenge in the eating department. It appears that he’s lived mostly on people food and turns up his nose at dry kibble type dog food. We’re working on that but it is taking some patience and retraining.
Rango also came to us with what we were told were some serious hip issues and had been on a pain reliever for many years. Possibly this was because he shows fear of walking on slippery floors. We whisked him off to our veterinarian and did complete hip, spine & knee x-rays. We are happy to report that everything was 100% normal and he was removed from his pain meds. We also did a complete blood work up and all was normal. This boy was deemed extremely healthy and ready for adoption! YAY!
Neutered, up to date on shots, and microchipped … this glorious hunk of canine love is truly ready to begin bonding with a new family. We cannot wait for you to meet him!
