CARL – Great Dane/German Shepherd – Male – 2-1/2 Y
Such an incredibly handsome boy with such an expressive face! You may recognize this face — we adopted Carl out back in September 2020 but his new owner’s life has gone topsy turvy so Carl is now in need of a new permanent forever home.
Carl is wonderfully housebroke and crate trained – he loves his super extra-large crate and is not destructive of the blankets or beds you put in it (Carl weighs in at 115 lbs just as an FYI). We have noticed that he has the best sides of both breeds. For the Great Dane side, he is super laid back … huge couch tater. Carl has an easy attitude and kind of “du-te-du” theory on life. He is friendly with people and seems more interested in them than he is in animals in general. Has had some exposure to children but we believe he will do best in a home with kids 8 and older – no toddlers. In regards to his German Shepherd side, he is very observant and attentive …watching all around him. Super smart and does have the shepherd prey drive. Carl does NOT do well with cats. Also, thanks to the Shepherd, he is protective of his people, his yard and his vehicle – fine in the house but is wary of strangers when outside. This is a definite shepherd feature and should be handled with proper training and supervision. We would love for Carl’s new owner to be an experienced dog person.
Carl seems to be selective of the dogs he likes — any introductions to a new family’s existing dog would be done through the supervision of our trainer just to be sure that first impression is a good one. Carl does great in the car, has learned to walk loose lead — knows sit, stay, shake both hands, and lay down. Carl is very food motivated and loves treats — he will go crazy for them so very fun dog to train. He will come with leashes, collar, choke collar, bunch of toys, shampoo, pooper scooper claw, and heated water bowl!
Carl is neutered, up to date on shots, wormed and microchipped.
