RHS Gives Lesson in Kindness to Central Elementary School

This school year, Rimrock Humane Society is reaching Roundup’s youngest citizens with lessons in responsible pet care. Rimrock Humane Society is providing 11 Central Elementary School classrooms with the children’s newspaper KIND NEWS and accompanying materials to help teachers encourage good character in children. The award-winning newspaper teaches children about kindness and respect for people, animals and the environment through articles, activities, short stories, projects and puzzles.

In October 2004, Rimrock Humane Society started an Adopt-a-Classroom program to fund the initiative and has received donations from individuals, community groups and businesses. We would like to take this opportunity to share the classes that are the lucky recipients and their sponsor who made it all possible:

Mrs. Gildroy – Grades 1st & 2nd – Sponsor Roundup High School FCCLA
Anita Burch – Kindergaten – Sponsor Bull Mountain Grooming
Gail Helgeson – Grade 1 – Sponsor Roundup High School BPA
Nancy Griemsman – Grade 1 – Sponsor Jorgenson Drug
Jim Helgeson – Grade 5 – Sponsor Rimrock Humane Society
Karen Hough – Grade 4 – Sponsor Wolske Accounting
Lynette Larson – Kindergarten – Sponsor Rhonda Dillman
Julie Majerus – Grade 3 – Sponsor Sandy Church
John Racki – Grade 3 – Sponsor Dr. Mark Rosebush
Rene Wanchena – Grade 2 – Sponsor Dorothy Justice
Lydia Tande – Grade 4 – Sponsor Electric Service Shop

The Adopt-a-Classroom program and KIND NEWS will be a vital part of Rimrock Humane Society’s efforts to solve animal related problems in Roundup, including pet overpopulation, neglect, abandonment and cruelty.

Rimrock Humane Society is seeking individuals or businesses to adopt classrooms for the 2005-2006 school year to further achieve our goal of reaching more children with lessons in kindness. Donors may select a specific classroom to receive these materials or Rimrock Humane Society can make the selection from their list of classrooms waiting to be adopted. Each $30 tax-deductible contribution made to Rimrock Humane Society for the Adopt-A-Classroom program provides a K – 6 teacher and his or her class with 32 copies of KIND NEWS and a teacher’s guide every month of the school year. Teachers also receive KIND TEACHER, a resource book of reproducible worksheets, KIND ID cards for the students, a classroom poster, and a calendar of fun facts and tips on helping people, animals and the environment.
