Rimrock Humane Society Receives $5,000 Spay/Neuter Grant

The Rimrock Humane Society is pleased to announce that they have received a $5,000 grant from the DJ & T Foundation to assist low income families with low cost spay/neuters within Musselshell County!

Bob Barker, well-known television personality, established the DJ&T Foundation in 1995. The Foundation's goal is to fund low cost spay/neuter clinics and voucher programs as a way to help relieve animal over population. Barker, who ends every "Price is Right" show with an appeal to viewers to spay or neuter their pets, felt compelled to do more to address the problem. The DJ&T Foundation is named in fond memory of Bob’s wife, Dorothy Jo, and his mother, Matilda (Tilly) Valandra, both of whom loved all animals.

The Foundation has funded clinics and voucher programs across the country to help animal lovers do their part in controlling animal over population. While its mission is to assist all qualified organizations, the Foundation is most committed to making grants at the grassroots level to deserving organizations that provide low cost or free spay/neuter services or voucher programs. The Rimrock Humane Society is honored that it was chosen to assist in this very worthy cause.

So how does this work? A pet owner will contact the Humane Society to specify that they want to have their animal altered. The owner is responsible for making a donation of either what they can afford or what they want to pay toward the surgery to the RHS. The Rimrock Humane Society will then pay the vet bill in full and the DJ & T Foundation will reimburse the Humane Society for the difference on a monthly basis. It is felt by all parties involved in this granting process that owners need to take some fiduciary responsibility in altering their pet. This program is a WIN/WIN/WIN situation . . . the veterinarian is getting full payment for the surgery and does not need to volunteer time or services, the owner is getting a healthier pet at a more affordable price and the Rimrock Humane Society is gratified in seeing the community doing something about the pet overpopulation problem.

The Rimrock Humane Society is up and running with this program so please call (406) 323-3687 to get your pet altered today! The Society’s web site can be found at: www.rimrockhumanesociety.org.
