Name:  Quigley
Breed:  Labrador Retriever/Australian Shepherd
Sex: Male                        Age:  8 months
Stray                              Date:  10/03/08

Mr. Quigley was found running around at the elementary school playground, entertaining the children. Hauled off to doggy jail, no one claimed this very sweet boy. We posted his bail and he is now living happily in foster care, awaiting his new forever home. Quigley has a gorgeous bushy tail and about the cutest ear set we have seen. On top of that, this boy is SO intelligent - what a blast to train as he catchs on immediately and retains what you teach him. Quigley has the charm too . . . everyone he meets, he leans into them and snuggles always getting an "Awwwww" from whomever is lucky enough to be holding him. Perfect medium sized dog weighing in at 43 lbs, our vetreinarian does not believe he will get much bigger. For a young fella, his resume is pretty full . . . housebroke, neutered, microchiopped, up to date on shots, wormed, knows sit, down and wait plus has the dog door mastered. This boy is an absolutely fabulous dog and he isn't even mature yet! Do NOT miss out on this one!

Name:  Sarah
Breed:  Australian Shepherd/Whippet?
Sex: Female                     Age:  2 Y
Owner Turn In                Date:  09/17/08

OK, we will admit it - we cannot figure out what breed this girl is . . . doesn't happen very often that we're stumped but Sarah has us scratching our heads! We do know there is herding breed in there somewhere - maybe Australian Shepherd or Border Collie. We have had some suggestions that the other breed may be whippet or greyhound. Possible . . .what we can tell you is that with her brindle and white coloring, she is drop dead gorgeous! Sarah's owner got a new job and was leaving her alone for 6 days of the week. She was being fed by family but had no companionship during that time - Sarah had the house to herself with a dog door out into a fenced yard but that was the extent of her day. Her foster home reports that she is an absolute love; so starved for attention and affection. When she sits on your lap, she wiggles and squirms and just cannot contain herself! Sarah is a dominant female and is learning that sharing can be a good thing. She loves to play with the other dogs and is good with the cats in the home. Sarah has been alone for so long, she is getting a refresher course in Doggy House Manners 101 like no counter surfing and you can't get into the garbage whenever you feel like it! She is incredibly smart, highly energetic and a quick study. Housebroke, spayed, microchipped and up to date on shots - Sarah's beauty sparkles not only on the outside but from inside as well. Please add this "gem" to your family as a forever friend!

Name:  TJ
Breed:  Pomeranian
Sex: Male                        Age:  9 Y
Owner Turn In                Date:  09/02/08

Alright, load this little fella into a "cute meter" and it would go off the scale! OH MY GOODNESS! Look at that face, the beaufitul coat and those sparkling eyes . . . an adorable 6 lb. bundle of fur! TJ may be 9 years young, but he still acts like a puppy and is in great health. He was recently neutered, had 9 teeth pulled and a tiny cyst removed from his back but those were just minor issues and he has come out of that surgery with flying colors. TJ did have us very concerned at first as he was all growls and nipping but we believe it was the trauma from both leaving his home and having the surgery. With each passing day, he is acting happier, more playful and the growling is subsiding although he still "play growls" with a toy. TJ is warming up to the smaller dogs in the foster home and seems to be getting along better with them. His new home will have NO young children but cats are fine as he grew up with them. Very active, happy little guy who seems to be blossoming before our very eyes. Small dogs always cause quite a stir when we put them up for adoption and we are sure that TJ will not disappoint.

Name:  Truman
Breed:  German Shepherd/Hound X
Sex: Male                        Age:  11 mos.
Owner Turn In                Date:  08/26/08

Truman's human momma got cancer and has been so sick with her chemo treatments, she just hasn't been able to take care of this boy as she should. So sad how this horrible disease can effect all in it's path. This gorgeous dog was raised in a loving home and it shows - he is a big, squishy ol' love bug! Believe it or not, he is from the same litter of pups as our other dog, Buck, but they have different daddies. (Yup, their momma was a "busy" girl! (o:) Truman is so much fun! He loves to romp around in that big galoot kind of way, give you kisses, loves to chase laser lights, knows sit and minds very well. Of course, he is still a pup but you can just see the intelligence in those eyes and all he wants to do is to please his owner. Growing up as an only dog, he has discovered that it is a BLAST to play with others of his kind - Valencia and Corona are his "girls". Not a malicious bone in this boy's body and very trainable. Never been around cats and would be good with children but perhaps older kids who won't get knocked over. Housebroke, up to date on shots, microchipped and will be neutered before adoption . . . Truman is beautiful not only on the outside but in heart and soul as well. To quote his namesake, President Truman said: "Children and dogs are as necessary to the welfare of the country as Wall Street and the railroads." So be a good American and adopt Truman!

Name:  Buck
Breed:  Yellow Labrador Retriever /Hound X
Sex: Male                        Age:  11 mos.
Owner Turn In                Date:  08/26/08

Buck's story is a common one . . . got him as a giveaway pup. Had him in the house, then he started getting too big for the house so he went out in a pen. Got bored in the pen so started climbing out so had to put a chain on him in the pen . . . finally . . . can't keep him anymore. Buck is half brother to Truman - same hound momma but yellow lab for a daddy. He looks like a yellow lab until you get to his head and then he is all hound - voice and all! Honestly, when you look at him you just have to think of "Ole Yeller". Buck is at an age where he remains a puppy in a dog's body - so joyful he can hardly contain himself, sweet and affectionate. The foster home is teaching him basic obedience and he will need to continue his training with his new owner. Buck LOVES other dogs and will play until they call a time out - gets along well with the 2 cats in the foster home. He was very curious at first but has learned they don't like to play with him so much.  Go figure! This boy shows absolutely no aggression whatsoever - he is a fun dog (can you say clown?) who will only get better and better as he matures. Neutered, up to date on shots, microchipped, housebroke, crate trained and LOVES to go on car rides! Buck will give you lots of love and laughs while you watch him mature into a wonderful dog! We guarantee it!

Name:  Corona
Breed:  Border Collie/Blue Heeler X
Sex: Female                    Age:  8 months
Owner Turn In                Date:  07/31/08

Foster home update: Corona is so sweet she is giving us cavaties! Very gentle and sensitive; think someone may have been harsh with her as you look at her cross eyed and she is hitting the deck. Incredibly submissive with other dogs and people in general. Her pink tongue is in constant motion - she has the fastest tongue in the West! So intelligent, fun to train and a just a doll to be around. Corona & Valencia came to us together as their family had to move and their new place would not accept pets. Corona was rescued by this family as a stray running down a country road. This girl is vivacious and energetic. She embraces life with gusto and intelligence - truly wants to please and responds well to training. Gets along well with other dogs although she feels it is her job to "heel" all of them as they run around her. Good with cats and would do best with older children as she may knock over a toddler. Corona is a liquor . . .er . . . we mean a "licker" - gives lots and lots of kisses. She may need a brush up on her house manners but she is an easy study. Will be spayed, up to date on shots and microchipped upon adoption. An incredibly sweet girl - isn't it about time you had a Corona (lime not included)???

Name:  Fancy
Breed:  Australian Shepherd X
Sex: Female                    Age:  3 years
Owner Turn In                Date:  07/08/08

Foster home update: This dog has it all.  She is sweet, friendly, and does wonderful with kids. Fancy continues to do great with other dogs and cats.  She also has gone riding with horses and did very well even though still wants to herd them when they are inside the corral - she does NOT do this when out with them.  She is very intelligent, wants to please, and is so affectionate and easy going.  She loves to go for care rides -  Fancy can go everywhere you want to take her.  This is a great all around balanced dog! Fancy is learning that "life" can get in the way of a lot of things especially your happy home. Due to changing circumstances with her humans, Fancy went from beloved pet to a sweet girl looking for a new family to call her own. Fancy is very easy going and energetic - she gets along fabulously with the other 6 dogs in her foster home, showing no aggression whatsoever. Definitely not an alpha dog - also gets along great with the cats in the household. Fancy loves her people and the attention they lavish on her. She will ask for attention by nosing you but is not obnoxious about it. She is also hoping to see her waistline soon (a wish many of us share) and is dieting to lose some of her excess weight. Fancy has a strong herding instinct and can be assertive with livestock - she knows basic obedience commands, does well on a leash and LOVES to ride in cars. Housebroke, crate trained, spayed, microchipped and up to date on shots - this girl is way to wonderful of a companion to NOT include in your life! Coming to your home soon!

Name:  Pippin
Breed:  Rottweiler/Shepherd X
Sex: Male                        Age:  1-1/2 Y
Owner Turn In                Date:  05/06/08

Foster home update: Pippin has really matured! In addition, he has become a beautiful dog and is now at proper weight and muscle mass.  He remains sweet and friendly.  Likes everyone, does well with kids, cats, and other dogs.  This sweetie is affectionate and loves being your best bud. He has the energy and youth to really be a great companion dog and bond deeply with a committed person/family.  He has been doing very well with his basic obedience! Must have another buddy to play with - would not do well as an only dog. Pippin is too social! Look at that mug! This poor fella began his life on a chain but we have promised Pippin that will NEVER happen again. This boy has come a long way since he arrived in his foster home.  He is housetrained, crate trained, and has become a couch potato in the house.  Pippin loves to cuddle with his people on the floor, couch, and/or bed and continues to learn basic obedience/commands. Is doing great with six other dogs in his foster home as well as both cats.  Pippin does not like to be left alone; he becomes stressed and has a tendency to bark particularly outside when he is left alone. (This is probably due to his originally being chained outside all the time before be was surrendered.) He really needs to have a doggy companion to rough house and feel connected to when his people are gone. Pippin would be great for a companion to run, bike, hike and go anywhere and everywhere with. He does not have an aggressive bone in his body. A home with a secure, loving, nonchaotic environment would be best for this boy. Pippin is a GREAT dog.  He will require a home that is knowledgeable of dog behavior, able to set boundaries, maintain a schedule, and has time to spend with this beautiful, worthwhile companion.

Name:  Boomer
Breed:  Doberman X
Sex: Male                        Age:  2-1/2 Y
Owner Turn In                Date:  03/14/08

Do some of you remember the litter of Doberman mix puppies we had almost two years ago that we placed? Well, here is Boomer all grown up! His family will be building a home and have no where to keep this boy during the construction so they have asked us to find him a new family. Boomer has grown into a beautiful boy; gorgeous markings, happy, very smart, loves attention, hardly ever barks. He loves being outdoors with his owners, knows how to use a dog door, knows sit, shake, down and gives hugs! Boom has never been around cats so that is a question mark but he is good with kids and is very submissive with other dogs. Just a handsome, happy go lucky fella! Of course, Boomer is neutered, up to date on shots and microchipped. We are sad that this sweet boy has come back into the RHS fold but happy that we can assist him in finding his new forever home!

Name:  Gideon
Breed:  German Shorthaired Pointer
Sex: Male                        Age:  9-1/2 Y
Owner Turn In                Date:  03/04/08

Foster home update: Gideon has kept his 10 lbs. off, his coat just gleems and he is looking good! This is a dog that we feel will do best in a home as the "one and only". Young, playful dogs really seem to get on his nerves - typical older gentleman, doesn't want to put up with the young whippersnappers! Could also do well in a home with another older dog like him. Loves his humans, is in fantastic shape and adores car rides! Oh yes, there is lots of "frosting" on that face but don't let that fool you, Gideon keeps up with the 2 year old dogs in the foster home! His family was moving out of the country and he will not be making the trip. We didn't want to see Gideon making any other "trips", if you know what we mean, so he came into the RHS family and is as happy as a clam! He was rather corpulent when he waddled through our door - 85 lbs. and approx. 10 lbs. overweight! Now, with some diet food and tons of exercise, he has a waist and tons of energy! Gideon has hunted and loves seeking bunnies at his foster home; he has tons of drive and lots of heart! Gets along with most other dogs but he probably wouldn't mind being someone's "numero uno". Couch potato that loves to be snuggled and rubbed and loved on. Will pick up his food bowl and bring it to you - loves to carry anything around in his mouth and will retrieve on command. Like all seniors, his resume is complete - housebroke, crate trained, up to date on shots, microchipped. Gideon's foster parents say it would be just super for this boy if a new forever home can be found but, if not, he has a safe, loving place to live out the many years he has left.
