Our
Mission
"To alleviate needless, inhumane suffering of animals and to
bring to our region a higher level of compassion for the creatures
who share our planet with us but who otherwise have no voice."
Our
Goals
-
Build
and maintain a humane, safe, compassionate sheltered facility for
all abandoned, neglected and abused companion animals.
-
Work to reduce animal euthanasia rates, and ultimately, to eliminate
the need for euthanizing unwanted pets.
-
Work to reunite lost animals with their owners.
-
Adopt out homeless animals through a carefully administered adoption
program that includes:
• Significant screening
• Sterilizing all pets
before they go to their new homes
• Numerous pet owner services
aimed at ensuring permanence of
adoptions.
-
Dedicate ourselves to enhancing community awareness of critical
animal issues and appropriate solutions through education and by
example:
• The tragedy and curability
of the pet overpopulation travesty
• The virtue and benefits
of responsible pet ownership
• The many critical benefits
of sterilizing all dogs and cats
-
Work to reduce the number of animals relinquished to shelters.
-
Create a network of volunteers dedicated to promoting our Mission.
-

Society goals.
Our
History
The Rimrock Humane Society began
as a dream by a kind and caring woman in Billings, Montana. It came
to fruition in the year 2000 and thus began the struggle of starting
a non-profit 501(c)3 organization from the ground up. The "baton"
of responsibility was passed at the end of the year 2002 from one caring
friend's hand to another and the Rimrock Humane Society was moved from
Billings to Roundup, Montana where it is currently. The dream of this
facility becoming a reality is shared by so many citizens of the Roundup
community, fundraising has begun in earnest and the nest egg of $8,000
that was transferred in December of 2002 has turned into $60,000 by
September 2006. Of course, there is much to be done and much more money
to be raised to even see this dream to fruition.
One of our dreams came true in March of 2005 . . .LAND! Oh yes, land
. ..land . . .beautiful land! The RHS is proud owner of 6 acres of prime
Montana ground. Just 6 miles south of Roundup on Highway 87 North. Highly
accessible, great water and gorgeous surroundings. We are just thrilled
to death to be that much closer to our goals! We invite you to stop
by and check it out . . . a FUTURE HOME OF sign marks the spot!

Then in August 2006, a very kind donor stepped forward and said that they would "fund" the conceptual drawings for the facility!! This meant that we got to actually see our dreams take shape on paper! It is truly thrilling to see our facility concept sitting on an image of our actual property - just like it is going to look once construction takes place. We want to thank Joel Anderson (our designer) and CTA Architects for this beautiful rendition. Also big thanks to our donor for, without her, none of this would have been possible!

We invite you to click on the picture above to take a virtual tour of our facility and read all about the many amenities it will offer the homeless animals and our community as well!
The RHS is striving to involve the community in it's fundraising attempts
by having an annual Rummage Sale every June and a Rimrock Rover Ramble
(Dog Walk) every May. In between those large fundraisers are small,
fun money raising events like bingo, clothing sales, quilt raffles, ATV raffles and calendars.
We have had some wonderful exposure by the press with articles introducing
us to the public in the Roundup Record, Billings Gazette, Yellowstone
Valley Woman's Magazine and on the local NBC affiliate, KULR-8. We cannot
thank these organizations enough for their wonderful support -- it has
helped us along our way immensely.
Meanwhile, helping the homeless and neglected animals of this community
is number one on our list. Not having a lot of foster homes or facilities
limits us greatly as the amount of critters we can assist but we do
our best and try to network with other shelters and rescues to get the
job done. As of October 2006, the RHS has helped rehome or reunite 83 animals as of this writing.
This may not sound like a lot but when we are working with the
limitations we have, we are pretty proud of those numbers! These are animals
that would have probably met a horrible fate and we are tickled that
they are now in loving homes being the great pets they deserve to be.
We are so encouraged what the future holds for us! It does not matter
how long this process takes -- we are in it for the long haul and will
see this dream to it's fruition. The animals and the community need
this service more than ever and we will work tirelessly until we are
standing in front of that new building, cutting the ribbon on our opening
day. Being we are a 501(c)3 organization, we do not recieve any funding
from the city or county or any other organization for that matter. The
monies raised are through grants and the kindness of the public. Help
us make this dream come true by going to the Help the Animals page and
make a tax deductible donation toward our cause - we cannot do this
alone and need the help of kind, caring people like yourself. Help us
to write this history page with the happy ending we all know is our
destiny! For your caring, the animals and the board of the Rimrock Humane Society thank
you from the bottom of our hearts.
